At BB Energy Foundation, our priority areas — education, health, and wellbeing for women and children — are not arbitrary choices. They are grounded in global evidence, aligned with internationally recognised development frameworks, and informed by research showing how investing in these areas unlocks sustainable growth, resilience, and equity.
We speak of three interconnected pillars: education, health, and wellbeing. Together, they create the conditions for long-term, community-led progress.
1. Education: The Foundation of Sustainable Progress
Education is far more than learning facts — it equips people with the tools to think critically, solve problems, participate fully in society, and support themselves and their families.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) — Quality Education — emphasises inclusive, equitable learning opportunities for all. High-quality education is critical to ending cycles of poverty, improving health outcomes, and strengthening civic participation.
Studies show that helping all children — and particularly girls — complete education significantly improves community wellbeing. Each additional year of schooling can increase a woman’s potential income and reduce early marriage and health risks.
Despite progress, challenges remain: millions of girls and young women are still out of school globally, particularly in low-income settings.
Why this matters for BB Energy Foundation: Education is a long-term investment that strengthens economies and communities from within. It gives children and young adults the tools to build healthier, more independent futures for themselves and their families.
2. Health: Protecting Life and Opportunity
Access to quality healthcare is fundamental to human dignity — yet many communities still face barriers to essential services.
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) — Good Health and Well-Being — calls for universal and equitable access to healthcare for all ages. This includes reducing preventable deaths among children under five, improving maternal health, and strengthening healthcare systems.
Women and children disproportionately bear the burden of limited healthcare access. Interventions in maternal and child health — including vaccination, antenatal care, emergency obstetric services, nutrition, and preventive care — are proven to save lives and build more resilient communities.
Why this matters for BB Energy Foundation: Physical health is foundational. Without it, education, economic participation, and long-term stability are difficult to achieve.
3. Wellbeing: Including Mental Health and Emotional Resilience
Beyond physical health, wellbeing — including mental health — is central to our strategy.
Wellbeing encompasses emotional resilience, psychosocial support, safe community spaces, and the confidence to participate fully in society. In many communities, mental health remains under-addressed despite its profound impact on learning outcomes, economic participation, and overall quality of life.
For women and children in particular, experiences of poverty, displacement, inequality, or trauma can significantly affect mental wellbeing. Supporting psychosocial resilience and creating spaces where individuals feel safe, valued, and supported is essential for sustainable development.
Why this matters for BB Energy Foundation: Education and healthcare alone are not enough. Individuals must also feel emotionally supported and empowered in order to thrive. By investing in wellbeing — including mental health — we strengthen not only individuals, but families and entire communities.
4. Women & Children: Core Drivers of Community Wellbeing
Gender equality (SDG 5) is both a human right and a prerequisite for sustainable development. When women have equal access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities, the benefits extend beyond individuals — economies grow, child mortality declines, and families become more resilient.
Conversely, failing to invest in women’s rights and opportunities carries significant social and economic costs.
Supporting women and children is therefore both principled and strategic. When women thrive, communities thrive, and future generations inherit stronger foundations.
Why These Areas Intersect and Reinforce Each Other
Our three pillars are deeply interconnected:
Education empowers individuals with knowledge and opportunity.
Health protects life and enables participation.
Wellbeing, including mental health, ensures resilience and long-term stability.
This integrated approach reflects the spirit of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which recognises that progress in one area accelerates progress in others.
BB Energy Foundation’s Commitment
BB Energy Foundation’s commitment to education, health, and wellbeing for women and children is grounded in both global evidence and local realities.
We believe lasting change begins by strengthening the whole person — intellectually, physically, and emotionally — and by supporting communities to lead their own progress.
By focusing on these priority areas, we contribute to more equitable, resilient, and sustainable futures — built from within communities themselves.

Understanding Rwanda’s Recent History Through Film
Rwanda’s recent history is both painful and important to understand. The 1994 genocide against the Tutsi had a devastating human impact and continues to shape conversations around justice, healing, and reconciliation today. We have highlighted two films, The Uncondemned and Hotel Rwanda, which offer valuable historical and human perspectives on this period, helping viewers engage more deeply with the experiences of those who lived through it.
