WOMEN FOR WOMEN RWANDA

Women for Women Rwanda (WfW-Rwanda) is a national organisation dedicated to empowering women and girls to build healthy, safe, and economically independent lives. For more than 24 years, the organisation has worked closely with communities across Rwanda to support women experiencing poverty, social exclusion, or gender-based discrimination.

Founded in 1997, WfW-Rwanda has supported more than 79,000 women and girls through its flagship programme, Stronger Women, Stronger Nation, a year-long training initiative designed to help women break cycles of poverty and build pathways toward long-term stability and wellbeing. The organisation’s approach centres on dignity, capability, and opportunity—ensuring that every woman and girl has the tools she needs to shape her own future.

WfW-Rwanda’s work combines social empowerment, vocational training, financial literacy, and health education. Alongside these core components, the organisation also promotes reproductive health and rights, prevents gender-based violence, and strengthens community networks so that women and girls can thrive within supportive environments.

Through their Stronger Women, Stronger Nation and Adolescent Girls’ Empowerment Programmes, WfW-Rwanda provides:

  • Integrated socio-economic training, including business skills, financial literacy, savings education, and vocational instruction.
  • Health and wellbeing support, focusing on reproductive health, mental health, nutrition, and personal safety.
  • Gender equality and rights education, helping girls understand their rights and navigate harmful norms and social pressures.
  • Community engagement, working with parents, guardians, and local leaders to build safe and supportive environments for girls.
  • Mentorship and networks, connecting participants with cooperatives, savings groups, and peer communities that provide long-term support.
  • Targeted adolescent programmes, such as Abadacogora, designed specifically for vulnerable teenage girls to build resilience, confidence, and future economic security.

WfW-Rwanda’s work aligns strongly with SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-Being), and SDG 4 (Quality Education). Their programmes improve economic opportunities, expand access to health and safety information, and support gender equality at both household and community levels.

The BB Energy Foundation is proud to partner with Women for Women Rwanda. Together, we are supporting adolescent girls to develop the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to build secure, self-reliant lives—and to shape stronger, healthier communities for the future.
